Kathy Jones’ Life

Kathryn Louise Jones was born in Iowa City, Iowa on March 1, 1939 and died December 10, 2022 in St. Augustine, Florida. She was the third child of Clara Topham Jones, and J. Donald Jones. Her father was a dairyman and her mother a homemaker. She was the child of the milkman.

Kathy graduated from Creston high school in 1957, Graceland college in 1959, University of Iowa in 1961, and Mankato State University in 1970. She was always athletic and followed that interest into 42-years in the teaching profession.

Kathy liked singing and playing the piano; she could play the “Old, Old Path,” on any instrument you handed her. Kathy was an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes. She liked playing around with photography and photographic equipment and had a special interest in cars. She had a variety of cars from an early 1970s MGB convertible to a VW Thing. Her all-time favorite car was an early 1960s Dodge Dart, “It would pin you to the seat when you stepped on the gas.”

Kathy loved puns and idioms. She said that her sense of humor often got her into trouble.

Kathy was very generous, and could empathize with what somebody else needed. She would often put her own needs last.
